Effective, Affordable Therapy
When searching for a therapist, the top considerations are cost, location, specialization, and personality “fit”.
Insurance can help lower the out-of-pocket cost of therapy sessions, but often it’s difficult to find an in-network therapist with availability. Therapists who take insurance also tend to work at larger organizations, where you may be scheduled with a therapist based on availability instead of by the type of therapist you are best suited for.
If you’ve been looking for a great-fit therapist who is in network with your insurance and aren’t coming up with a lot of options, you’re not alone!
At Hale Counseling NW, we have several graduate student therapist interns who provide effective therapy that is uniquely tailored to you. Since we are a small practice, we prioritize your needs and your relationship with your therapist over everything else. Our mission is to make good therapy affordable for people of all income levels, and this is the way we make this happen.
Benefits of Meeting with an Intern
Although the title “intern” is usually associated with “untrained” or “inexperienced”, this is not the case with graduate therapy interns. Counselors in internship are at the end of their counseling degree program and have completed all their required coursework. They have spent hours honing their therapy skills prior to working with clients, and continue under intensive supervision to help ensure they are providing effective therapy. They may not have the seasoned instincts that years of experience might bring them, but they are still very good at what they do.
With a graduate student intern, you get the benefit of:
- Fresh, “cutting edge” methods that are based on recent research
- Dedicated, compassionate energy that comes from being excited about therapy work
- Support from supervisors and trainers who are providing guidance to your therapist’s process
- Personalized therapy tailored to you and your unique situation
- Lower cost to you – Fees are used to provide your therapist with additional training opportunities
When is meeting with a graduate student intern not appropriate?
If you are in a crisis situation, or need a very specific type of therapy, meeting with an intern may not be right for you. If you’re not sure whether an intern is a good fit for your needs, please reach out and ask. You can also have a confidential meet and greet with Sharon to discuss your options.
